Materials, Processes and Transformations

This line of research aims at obtaining new materials and products (organic, inorganic or hybrids) that can be potentially applied in technology throughout many sectors of society. The research in this line encompasses the development of new products or modification of the ones already existing, through the improvement of manufacturing processes, changes in composition or hybridization of materials. It also studies the characterization and analysis of structure and physical, chemical and/or biological properties as well as the materials’ applications.

Nanoscience and nanotechnology

This line of research focuses on the study, manipulation and characterization of physical and chemical phenomena associated with the matter in atomic and molecular scales, which grants significantly different properties in comparison to its micro and macroscopic scales. The activities in this line use the application of nanoscience concepts concerning production, development, and utilization of new nanometric structures in product technology and innovation.
